Before/After :: A Primary Suite and its Genius Storage

August 24, 2022 by 1970 Dogwood Street

Our client imagined, designed, and oversaw a complete transformation of her primary bedroom and attached bath. We are in awe of the final product ::: a row of custom built-ins that open up to reveal an ensuite bathroom and a closet. Wowza!

See the space below, before the wall of doors became a wall of magic 🙂

Before/After :: Adding Floating Shelves

August 10, 2022 by 1970 Dogwood Street

This is a seemingly simple way to update a room, while adding efficient ways to store treasured items. We took the opportunity to update the brick and add an old wooden beam for the mantel. Removing the chair rail also made a big impact. We love the cozy focal spot that’s been created in this room — adding a new paint color and ceiling lights beckons you to stay awhile.

Taking a Bathroom to the Next Level

July 27, 2022 by 1970 Dogwood Street

This is the result of a complete gut job and renovation. The owners chose a wall-mounted faucet to free up counter space and a wall-mounted vanity to give the illusion of more floor space. It works! Next up : the new glass shower door. We love the nearly-hidden drain at the front edge of the shower!

What I’m Reading Now

July 13, 2022 by 1970 Dogwood Street

This is one of my favorite summer reads so far this year! It has all the twists and turns of a psychological thriller and all the heartache and tenderness of a love story. I could not put it down. An easy add to your summer reading list.

Before/After :: A Gorgeous Basement Transformation

June 29, 2022 by 1970 Dogwood Street

We are thrilled with the way this turned out! Enjoy the pictures!

This family wanted a major overhaul of their family room :: a hub for watching sports and movies, playing games, and hanging out with their beloved pets. The homeowners made great choices with a crisp blue color scheme and plenty of lighting options, adding a coastal flair and organic elements like the new wood-grain tile for the floor.

Below you can see the old, dark wood bookcase, before it was reimagined as the base for the new expanded built-ins along the same wall.

The door to access the storage room is nearly hidden on the new fireplace accent wall. See the next two pics below :: yes, it’s the same wall! If you look very closely, you can see the seam of the door to the right.

The project is a culmination of months of hard work, but the family is enjoying the fruits of their labor. Well done! Thanks for taking us along for the ride.

Showcasing an Updated Teen Bedroom

June 15, 2022 by 1970 Dogwood Street

This was a fun project with an older teenager, ready to ditch all the old white furniture pieces and create a refuge and space for study, reading, music, and relaxing. It’s chockfull of thoughtful and personal details, with colors and finishes that were selected with intention and purpose!

How We Created the Perfect Tech Nook Out of a Former Hallway

June 1, 2022 by 1970 Dogwood Street

This space had a former life as a pass-through hallway. It was made possible by closing an opening that used to sit right where the mirror is, and also by moving access to the adjoining powder room just around the corner. What we gained was invaluable space to perch with a laptop, sort mail, pay bills, and act as a tech hub for the home. Aren’t the gorgeous exposed shelves amazing? And we love the juxtaposition of the quartz countertop with the black penny round tile backsplash that clads the entire wall.

Here’s a good look at the tile after installation, but before grouting. We made sure to add plenty of outlets for easy charging access!

This picture shows the exposed plumbing of the adjoining powder room on the left, and the prior opening to the laundry on the right, now closed.

Here you can see a “birds eye” view of the powder room in the middle and the tech nook on the right. Lots of wood repair and replacement for the floors before they were given a gorgeous walnut finish at the end.

We Finally Toured Graceland!

May 19, 2022 by 1970 Dogwood Street

This was a “bucket list” item for me and I dragged my family along when we had the opportunity last month. The house itself is not incredibly large, but I was in it for the history and the design choices and it did NOT disappoint!

First up, the Jungle Room! This room is not in the basement as I assumed from the “Walking in Memphis” lyrics, but instead simply along the back of the house, behind the kitchen. Green carpet on the floor, some of the walls, and the ceiling! The peach-lit stone on the left was built as a indoor waterfall feature, but wasn’t running when we saw it. The furniture here is very specific and in fact, we saw some of the receipts for the custom furniture throughout the home.

This room was the only bedroom we saw, as the upstairs is not open for tours. This is a bedroom on the main level, behind the living room, and was created for Elvis’ parents, who lived with them. It was cool to see the adjoining bathroom and closet as well.

This was the front, formal living room, just off the entry way. Lots of mirrors here, and custom glass feature shows a bit of the music room beyond, where you can spy a white grand piano!

The walls and ceilings in the stairwell to the basement were very trippy. Had to take a picture of the mirrored effect!

This is the basement screening room — he had the ceiling mirrored here too with lots of yellow and black accents. 3 tvs are built in to the wall here, a nod to the 3 major networks at the time. Look at all those toss pillows on the ginormous sectional.

This is his manager’s office, located in a small building in the backyard, just a short walk behind the attached carport. His dad was his manager and it definitely had the feeling of an office, with harsh overhead lighting and lots of brown metal furniture!

Before/After :: Adding Sophisticated Color

May 4, 2022 by 1970 Dogwood Street

We are thrilled with the final results of this beautiful conference room. The main goals were :: (1) add more light, (2) add more color, (3) update the storage pieces along the perimeter of the room, and (4) come up a cohesive plan for art. Mission accomplished!

Here are a few “before” pics to see what everything looked like before we got working on it!

    Jen and Anne were so much fun to work with. My living room and office/exercise area really needed a refresh. Trying to figure out what to do was completely overwhelming for me until Jen and Anne were recommended. They really listened to what I was aiming to accomplish and provided thoughtful suggestions and new ideas that I NEVER would have thought of. As I result, I now have improved lighting, carpets, furniture, accent pieces and, best of all, a fantastic gallery wall that I can add to and/or rearrange. I’m so comfortable and happy in my improved spaces. Jen and Anne are the best!

  • Barbara M.

    Jen and Anne have great ideas and are fun to work with. They made suggestions for design, lighting, furnishings and storage that have made my living space more comfortable and functional. I would never have been able to accomplish any of this without them.  And all this happened during COVID!  They're the best!

  • Barbara L.

    Their design knowledge combined with their access to many competent professionals made the job so easy! Ann and Jen were super easy to work with and always wore masks. I have lived here since 1987 & I have never been this thrilled with my home.  They were conscious of the budget. I highly recommend Ann & Jen of 1970 Dogwood Street!

  • Kelly E.

    Jen and Anne were amazing! They listened well to get a good understanding of my needs and style and then came up with great ideas and designs. Their use of Pinterest boards made is super easy to exchange ideas. Jen would also text me photos if she happened to be at a store and saw something I may like/need. They are very thoughtful and professional and deliver as expected. I highly recommend.

  • Maura W.

    They provided fresh and innovative ideas where I had no clue, helped guide me where I already had views, and were great sounding boards where I was unsure (and they often would bounce ideas off of one other, resulting in a great final product). They were never pushy or judgmental but were always honest and supportive with their views. They were always enthusiastic and clearly love what they do. They were ready to do anything from offer little tips to go pick out and buy everything for me (and everything in between).

  • Alexis D.

    Thanks for helping us transition our living room and kitchen into a warm and cozy space. We love it!

  • Rebecca H.

    I wasn’t sure what I wanted our basement to look like, beyond removing the carpet and changing the paint color. You two took my hazy vision and vague ideas and made every inch of the limited space truly work! The framed gallery of family photos brings me great joy and makes the room vibrant!

    Most especially, I loved working with you both. You really took the time to ask the right questions to learn exactly how my family operates, our personalities, interests and styles and then, amazingly, put it all together.

They transformed my living room while coming in under budget and getting my "style" better than I did! Besides their unlimited design and organizational skills, I can really attest to their efficient, no-nonsense way they get any job done.

    They are so great and easy to work with, I can't wait to start on my next project with them which is making my kids' rooms not look like we just moved in! And it's my house of 7 years!”
